Fright Night Sequel direct to DVD

Fright Night Sequel direct to DVD

Well this is, um, interesting? (Maybe that’s not quite the right word for it…)

I’ve been wondering how they were going to do a direct-to-DVD sequel to the “Fright Night” remake, and from the sounds of it, they’re just going to do “Fright Night” … again. You know, as if the first movie didn’t exist. I mean, the first remake. This doesn’t sound like “Fright Night 2″ at all. It sounds like a remake of “Fright Night” … again. Except cheaper, shot entirely in an Eastern European country where the dollar goes farther, and with an all-new cast. Honestly, none of this makes any sense.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, here’s the synopsis they’ve unearthed for the “sequel”:

When high school student Charlie attends a study abroad program with his horror obsessed friend “Evil” Ed and ex-girlfriend AMY in Romania, he soon discovers their young attractive professor Gerri (Jaime Murray) is a real life vampire. Too bad no one believes him. In fact, Evil Ed finds it amusing and it only feeds his vampire obsession. When Gerri turns Ed, Charlie seeks out Peter Vincent, the infamous vampire hunter (well, he plays one on TV) who is in Romania filming his show “Fright Night,” to teach him how to take down Gerri before she gets to Amy, who’s blood will cure Gerri of spending eternity as a vampire.

Charlie would be “Charley Brewster”, the young lead in the first two movies (or, er, the original and the remake). Obviously, the synopsis says “Charlie”, but the character is officially “Charley” with a “y”, not that it matters much. I mean, it’s still pronounced “Charlie”. But Amy is definitely the female lead played by Imogen Poots in the remake. Likewise Evil Ed as Charley’s best friend who becomes a vampire. Then, of course, there’s Peter Vincent again…

So yeah, apparently “Fright Night 2″ (if this synopsis ends up being correct, I mean) is essentially a second remake of “Fright Night”.

But hey, at least we know that its first casting will be Jaime Murray (of “Dexter” and “Spartacus” fame) as the vampire. She’s purty.
